Private coaching

Private coaching gives you the opportunity to assess a coach's true worth directly! It is also generally more intense, as you're not on your own, behind a computer monitor. During a live lesson the coach also gets very valuable information from the student: how he reacts to questions, tasks and positions.
Basically, gauging the student's true strength is easier and quicker for the coach.
Also, don't forget that software isn't everything. Real chess is played over the board against other human beings that you can physically see. That's why direct contact with a coach, if geographically possible, can prove very useful indeed.
Motivation is also an important issue: getting honest words of encouragement from your coach is not quite the same as getting an email which reads: "Good luck in your next tournament!"...
Here are some scenarios where private coaching would be recommended:
- If you want to assess by yourself what the coach can really do for you before comitting yourself to one of the different coaching plans.
- If you're an advanced player who wants to practice opening ideas.
- If you have identified a very specific problem in your play and want to do something about it.
- If you're thinking of developing a long term coach-student relationship, then this is a good opportunity to meet the coach in person. You can also combine private lessons with on-line coaching, and this is really a very good approach. Direct communication is a good opportunity to exchange ideas regarding learning methods. As a chessplayer, Javier has been thru the torturesome roads of self-learning and can help you to avoid common mistakes which will only waste your time.

- If you simply find private lessons better for you than on-line coaching.
- If you wish to arrange private matches against some of the strongest possible opposition you can get in the country!. (smile)
At present, private coaching is available in the Bondi Junction and Strathfield areas. Coaching at your home can be arranged, however the price is higher due to travelling time and cost for the coach.
