 Overview

Forum based coaching shares many of the elements of traditional on-line coaching, as has been described here.
However, there are some noticeable differences:

When a student meets all the requirements, he gains access to the next level, and he can download any of the files in that particular level.
Questions are replied on-line but at different times of the day. It will normally take between 12 and 48 hours to get an answer, sometimes quicker, but you'll always get a reply. There's no limit to the number of questions you can ask (within reason!). No student is allowed to access a higher level within a 3 month period.
I've been working with forum software for many years and chesspupil's forum has been heavily modified to accomodate the needs of a chess comunity. One of our most useful features is the possibility to display chess games and diagrams, and it all it takes pressing a button and adding the moves in algebraic notation, and this is what you get:

As you can see, the game can be annotated, automatically replayed or even downloaded and you can also add notes to it, making explanations a lot easier. Note that whenever it is necessary, the student also gets a standard chessbase file to answer his question.

 10 Different levels.

How do I decide which group you belong to? You'll be asked to provide some basic information about your current level, such as your local/national/FIDE rating, experience, etc. In some cases it might be necessary to take a test to assess your level.
How can you advance to the next level?
Your progress will be monitored using 2 main variables: your rating evolution and your test results. Note that although there are many on-line tests to measure your understanding and assimilation of topics, the tests which will be used to decide if you're ready for the next level are completely different and are normally carried out on-line on one of these two main servers:

playchess.com or chessclub.com.

I will be testing you personally!

As the number of files found in each category can be quite large, it is necessary to stablish a training plan at some point. Of course, you could simply download all the files and study everything, but that's nor practical. That's why it is essential that you provide me with all the information you can about your chess strength.
As soon as I gather enough information, I will be able to provide you with a well formulated plan. Each student gets a different plan.
This training plan will normally indicate your priorities and which areas you should be working on before anything else. It will also contain general advice. What exactly do I need from you? Once you become a registered student, I will need you to post a message with as many of your games as possible (even the ones you have recorded when playing against your computer), your goals, what you think your main weaknesses are and which areas of the game you think you'd like to work on before anything else. (it is important that you feel comfortable working on subjects which genuinely interest you).

 Premium files

Edited personally by me. Each level has different files and you can download all files within a level for free. I've been editing chess files for more than 10 years and this is one of the areas my students like best because these files are completely original and fully detailed explanations.
The files which you'll have access to are openings, tactics, strategy and endgame files. One of the most interesting aspects of my downloads section is that you can actually request a file on a topic of your choice!. For example, say you wanted to learn about a particular opening line which was bothering you lately. You'd simply enter a post on the forums and I would then edit it myself with my comments and recomendations. This file would then become part of the downloads database and all students in that user group would have access to it.
What else? something particularly useful: you can download the games I have annotated for other students of mine! Note, however, that the games I annotate for you will also become part of this database and other students will be able to download them also.
